| The old Dundrum Garda Station in Lower Kilmacud Road, Dundrum, received an internal and external sympathetic renovation by main contractor Ganson Builders Ltd. Natural Hydraulic Lime 2 and Natural Hydraulic Lime 3.5 binders, available from SMET, were utilised in this specialised project. Natural Hydraulic Lime binders are produced under an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 quality system to EN 459-1. NHL binders are particularly suited for ecological new build, restoration and preservation work. The products’ special composition allows the mortar product to breathe and also permits constant hygrometric exchange between the substrate and the environment. This historic building received an external re-pointing facelift with the internal walls replastered.
The selective hydraulic strength development of NHL binders makes them particularly suitable for producing lime mortars for masonry work, rendering, and plastering on historical buildings and monuments. NHL binders, available directly from SMET and online or in-store via our distribution partner Haldane Fisher, are particularly suited for ecological new builds, conservation, restoration, and preservation works. The products’ special composition allows mortars to breathe and permits constant hygrometric exchange between the substrate and the environment. This Restoration is another showcase of sympathetic historic building restoration, using superior-quality NHL products available from SMET. CASEA Bauprocalc KAP 830 – Hydraulic Lime Based Render and CASEA Bauprocalc KG Hydraulic Lime Based Skim Coat were specially selected as the internal finish of this high profile, unique development in Dublin. Bauprocalc Lime products were selected to comply with this ecological driven construction. The product’s unique properties such as; high water vapour permeability (breathability), sustainability, and the special composition which allows constant hygrometric exchange between the substrate and the environment, were key drivers in the selection of this plastering system. Smet Supported Partner, Ganson Ltd, machine applied the high quality lime based products with Bauprocalc KAP base coat and Bauprocalc KG as the finish coat.
