To Lightly Flo’!

“The construction industry is often thought of as slow to respond to changes, however, the development of self levelling floor screed quickly gained acceptance for its speed of laying, drying, ease of labour and, that holy grail of building – a level surface.

Concrete floors are heavy and the self levelling screeds currently available often require a correspondingly robust structure to support them. The development of innovative LiteFlo®, a lightweight alpha hemihydrate calcium sulphate floor screed from SMET changes that. Developed in Germany’s most advanced laboratories and made from specially selected aggregates which make it 30% lighter than conventional flowing screeds and 70% lighter than traditional sand and cement or concrete. Unlike traditional screeds, Liteflo is pump applied and is therefore ideal for timber frame builds, suspended timber floors, balconies, tower blocks, renovation projects and for over acoustic or thermal insulation.

What makes LiteFlo® screed so special is its chemical composition. LiteFlo® is made out of Alpha Hemihydrate and this provides unique benefits over less advanced compounds. When LiteFlo® is mixed on-site to create a self levelling, pumpable screed, it takes up water much more readily than a conventional screed, muxing smoothly and almost completely crystallises – up to 95% in 24 hours. LiteFlo® is installed in the UK and Ireland (and Europe wide) by SMET Supported Partners, with an approximate cost of £30/€38 sqm and an average house takes just half a day to complete. LiteFlo® is produced to EN 13813 and installed in strict accordance with BS 8204-7.

LiteFlo lightweight flowing calcium sulphate screed is supplied to site in pre-mixed bags or site silos.

LiteFlo is designed for application at thicknesses of between 20 and 90 mm. LiteFlo® complies with EN 13813: 2002. and is CE marked.

LiteFlo® is suitable for floors in homes, offices, public buildings, and places exposed to similar loads. LiteFlo® may be applied as a levelling screed directly onto a load-bearing floor, unbonded on a separating barrier (polythene), as a floating floor and is particularly suited in conjunction with underfloor heating or cavity floors.

LiteFlo® should be covered with a floor finish such as tiles, linoleum, parquet, cork or carpet. If a cement-based adhesive or smoothing compound is required the surface of the screed must first be sealed, using an appropriate acrylic primer/sealer.
