SMET ‘BIMovates’ with the NBS National BIM Library
Coinciding with the recent publication of the 2014 NBS National BIM Report, SMET are celebrating one year since the launch of SMET BIM objects with the NBS National BIM Library. True to their tagline, ‘Bringing European Innovation’, Smet Building Products Ltd, were the first company in the UK Dry Mortar industry to invest in BIM. Subsequently, SMET objects have become some of the most downloaded in the NBS National BIM Library to date, with over 14,000 downloads by designers & architects since their launch.
Available for download in ArchiCAD, Bentley, IFC, Vectorworks and Revit software formats; the 47 SMET high quality, data-rich objects are listed under – Bedding & Underlay, Plasters & Renders, Mortars, Grouts & Slurries, Concrete, Adhesives and Admixtures & Additives categories. These products, while not particularly tangible on a finished building – form the substrate upon which all design is created.
As BIM adoption increases globally, the availability of manufacturer products as data rich BIM objects will become an increasingly important factor in product selection by specifiers and contractors. Indeed, the UK Government’s Construction strategy states that BIM (Building Information Modelling) will become a key part of the government’s procurement of public buildings. And from 2016 – BIM will be mandatory on all public sector contracts.
SMET highly welcome the findings of the 2014 NBS National BIM Report, further reinforcing their BIM strategy and a return on early investment into their BIM objects. Cleary BIM is here to stay – businesses adopting BIM now have the key advantage when contracts are being agreed, leaving the non-adopters behind.Moving forward, SMET will continue to monitor user needs, invest in – and enhance – their BIM catalogue with The NBS; ensuring Smet Building Products Limited remains at the forefront of innovation and efficiency improvements in the construction industry.
