Mc Callion Group states: McCallion Group is proud to serve as the main contractor on a landmark sustainability project for Lidl Ireland in Maynooth, Co. Kildare — the country’s first Net Zero Energy supermarket. This €10 million+ investment sets a new benchmark in Irish retail construction and showcases what can be achieved through innovation, sustainability, and expert delivery.  🔋 Powered entirely by onsite renewable energy, the supermarket will feature:

  • A 575 kWp solar panel system across the roof and car park — the largest rooftop solar array in the country
  • Concrete incorporating 50% recycled materials
  • Sustainable glulam timber beams and low embodied carbon roof panels
  • 100% onsite reuse of stone from Lidl’s original Maynooth store
💡 The store is designed to save the energy equivalent of over 40 Irish households annually and deliver carbon savings comparable to avoiding 1,500 flights from Ireland to Spain each year.
With over 150 local construction jobs supported during the build, this flagship project marks a significant step towards Lidl’s goal of achieving net zero emissions across its supply chain by 2050 — and a proud milestone for McCallion Group in delivering sustainable construction at scale.”

As the appointed plastering contractor, Gerard Doherty Plastering Ltd applied the LIDL External Render System using a machine application method. Externally, bauprotec FLP Plus, a lightweight render, was applied to Poroton blocks. For key coat application onto mass concrete and insulated plinths, bauprotec RHS Multi-Purpose Render was utilised.

This particular LIDL render spec, available from SMET, consisted of the following two products:

bauprotec RHS Multi-Purpose Render is a CE-marked, factory-produced, highly polymer-modified render specially designed for hand and machine application, produced to EN 998-1: 2010.

bauprotec FLP Plus – Ultra Lightweight Fibre Render is a factory-produced, highly efficient, lightweight mineral lime cement render, produced to EN 998-1, specifically designed for high-insulating masonry for interior and exterior use, with excellent working properties.

The special render properties, lightweight, low thermal conductivity, high yield, and Smet Supported Partner’s superior technical backup, are key factors in choosing SMET.

  • For Poroton Clay Blocks
  • For Lightweight Blocks
  • High Product Yield
  • Excellent Breathability
  • Technical Support
  • Specification Support
  • UK and IRL Nationwide delivery

SMET is committed to delivering consistently superior, German-made Render Systems to Lidl Plastering and rendering contractors across the UK and ROI.
