Tradilys Protect – Damp Treatment Plaster

Tradilys Protect is a cement-free mortar system designed to restore walls affected by saltpetre and damp.

This cement-free, natural hydraulic lime-based plaster is designed for the sanitation of saltpetre and damp walls inside and outside. Ideally suited to the treatment of salts (chlorides, nitrates and sulphates), with very low capillary absorption, it facilitates rapid evaporation of water. Its specific admixture gives it flexibility and creaminess, making it easy to use in both manual and mechanical applications. Its reduced consumption is also an asset (covering from 50 cm above traces of moisture), with a CS II compressive strength, it’s perfectly suited to old buildings.

Tradilys Protect – Damp Treatment Plaster is available in ROI & NI from SMET

Tradilys Protect differs from standard lime renders because it is not just a breathable finishing plaster coating — it is a dehumidifying and salt-management render system specifically formulated for problematic, damp and contaminated masonry.

Tradilys Protect is a high-performance, durable, cement-free mortar formulated with natural hydraulic lime (NHL 3.5) and designed specifically to renovate walls affected by rising damp and salt contamination. This macroporous, dehumidifying render features a natural, highly breathable composition, making it suitable for both internal and external applications. A natural, cement-free option, Tradilys Protect maintains the natural breathability, allowing moisture to dissipate without damage to the structure of the building.

Developed to remediate masonry damaged by saltpetre and moisture, it effectively manages chlorides, nitrates, and sulphates through its salt-buffering capability. Its very low capillary absorption reduces further moisture ingress while encouraging rapid evaporation of retained water, helping walls dry efficiently and safely. Carefully selected admixtures enhance flexibility and provide a smooth, workable consistency suitable for both manual and mechanical application.

Saltpetre (or saltpeter) describes efflorescence, which is the white, powdery salt deposits that appear on walls due to rising damp or moisture issues. These salts come from the ground or building materials and are drawn to the surface by evaporating water.

How Saltpetre Affects Walls

  • It appears as white, powdery, or crusty deposits on brick, stone, or plaster surfaces.

  • It is caused by moisture carrying dissolved salts to the wall surface.

  • It can damage paint, plaster, and masonry over time.

  • It often signals underlying damp problems, such as rising damp or penetrating damp.

For the treatment of interior and exterior walls, Tradilys Protect is intended to reduce capillary rise and salt migration. It produces a soft, creamy mortar suitable for machine wash and manual application.   The presence of lime optimises adhesion to substrates.

Why use Tradilys Protect – Damp Treatment Plaster

  • A traditional mortar designed for restoring walls affected by saltpetre and dampness.
  • Suitable for applying renders and plaster layers to address capillary rise and various salts (chlorides, nitrates, and sulphates).
  • Special additives enhance flexibility, making application easier.
  • Complies with DTU 26.1 standards, CE standard EN 998-1, and Type R Class CS II
